Since the initial callout, there has been an increase in police and firefighter presence in the surrounding areas. Ambulances have also arrived at the scene.

The factory building that was ablaze was of particular concern, as there were reports of “chemicals and oil drums” stored nearby. Resultingly, the Fire and Rescue team were working closely alongside the police, ambulance and Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART).

The Greater Manchester Police have closed Ashburton Road West, but Guiness Road remains open. Despite this, they are warning people of the danger in the area.

A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue have advised locals in the area to “Please keep windows and doors shut if you are in the surrounding area and avoid the location while emergency services work at the scene.”

The reason behind the fire is not yet known.

Updates to follow.
