Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has revealed his hopes of earning a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking to the media earlier today, the 22-year-old shared his excitement after receiving his first senior call-up, outlining his ambition to become a long-term part of Tuchel’s plans.
Reflecting on his rapid rise from non-league football to the Premier League, the Guernsey native said he was “over the moon” to receive the call, but made it clear he has no intention of simply making up the numbers.
“That’s the dream for everyone, especially the players here: to be in that World Cup squad,” Scott said. “But I just want to come in, show what I’m about, and prove what I can do in an England shirt. The World Cup is definitely a dream of mine, but I’ve got to take it one step at a time — enjoy this week, and if I get the chance to play, hopefully impress and show what I’m capable of.”
Scott’s inclusion in the national side comes off the back of 33 appearances for England at youth level, playing a key role in the team that won the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
Scott credited his on-pitch chemistry and off-field friendship with fellow England international Elliot Anderson as a major factor behind their success.
“We just understand each other very well,” the Channel Islander explained. “We’re close off the pitch, and it’s a massive help having him here. When I came in for my first camp, it was nice to have familiar faces around. In the summer, the way we played suited each other perfectly.”
Dubbed the ‘Guernsey Grealish’, Scott began his career in the Southern Combination Premier Division, becoming one of only four players from the island to turn professional. After joining Bristol City in 2020, he made the step up to the Premier League with Bournemouth in 2023, where his performances this season have earned him a place in Tuchel’s latest squad.
The midfielder was quick to thank his manager Andoni Iraola and his teammates for their support during the injury setbacks that disrupted his first year at the club.
“The club was brilliant,” he said. “Anyone there I could speak to if I was feeling down or not great. They definitely helped me through it, but at times it was tough. I’m just glad I’ve come out the other end and I’m finally getting a run of games with no injuries — that’s the most important thing.”
Looking ahead to his first taste of senior international football, Scott added:
“I just want to come in and be brave, play the way I know I can. It can be daunting coming into the senior team for the first time, but I just want to go out there and show the ability I have and what I can produce.”
Tuchel’s Three Lions will round off their European World Cup qualification campaign this week, facing Serbia on Thursday and Albania on Sunday.
In other squad news, Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah and Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford have earned late call-ups following the withdrawals of Newcastle United duo Nick Pope and Anthony Gordon due to injury concerns.
