Rob Edwards has been announced as the new Wolverhampton Wanderers Head Coach, signing on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Edwards already has a relationship with the club as he played 111 games for them for four years between 2004 and 2008 and in 2014, he became an academy coach with the club.

He re-joins after a good start to the season with Middlesborough, where he repeated numerous times about being together and having a unity in the group, only to leave them fifteen games into the league season, where they only lost twice.

On the contrary, Wolves this season have lost every league game apart from two, of which they have drawn both (Tottenham away and Brighton at home). This has left them eight points behind safety and Burnley in 17th after eleven league games.

Only two other teams have gained only two points from their first eleven games and both of those have been relegated, giving Rob Edwards a tough job this season.

Edwards himself said that the decision to leave Middlesborough to join Wolves was ‘one of the toughest decisions’ he has had to make. On Instagram, Edwards said that he “wouldn’t have considered leaving Middlesborough for any other club.

“Wolves is a special club for me. It’s where I grew as both a player and a coach. It’s still where my family calls home.”

This decision from Edwards evoked an incandescent response from the Middlesborough fans, which was praised by the club on social media. The statement said: “the Riverside came together as one, players, staff, and supporters, and you could feel the sense of unity which is at the core of our club.”

Middlesborough confirmed that Adi Viveash will continue to take charge of team affairs until further notice.

Rob Edwards first game as Wolves Head Coach is against Crystal Palace at the Molineux.
