The Lancashire club turn 150 years old as of the 5th November 2025. A special Saturday lineup with a double-header match commemorated the team's history through heart-warming tributes.

Their 150-year milestone is something few clubs can boast of. Blackburn Rovers was founded in 1875,  becoming one of the earliest official football teams to exist. Being one of the founding The Football League  in 1884 set the Blue and White Army up to be a richly historic team, with many iconic players, moments  and wins to follow.

Rovers' recognition of their anniversary largely took place at their home match against Derby County. As if  celebrating their 150th birthday wasn’t enough of a reason to want to win, their match against the Rams  added to their winning desire due to tensions that followed many Blackburn players switching to the  midland’s side.

Before the match, many tributes from former players such as David Dunn, Alan Shearer, Jordan Rhodes  and Bradley Dack were shared to Rovers’ Instagram, as the stars reflected on their time at Blackburn.

The club’s walk from humble beginnings in the 1870s to being the only town team to win the Premier  League was honoured by fans and players through a double header match on Saturday the 8th of  November, at Blackburn’s home ground since 1890, Ewood Park.

Following their 2-1 defeat against the Rams, fans remained in their seats to watch the unique but historic  fixture against Old Etonians. As a nostalgic nod to their first time in the final of the FA Cup in 1882, Rovers  Legends-former iconic Blackburn players- took on Eton College alumni’s team.

The Legends Team consisted of prominent players of the Lancashire team from the long past and recent  past, including notable names such as Morten Gamst Pederson, Colin Hendry (C) and David Bentley.

With the match being free alongside a purchase of a Derby ticket, a shortened time was allocated for the  match, with 20 minutes per side and a five-minute break for half-time. Within the first minute, the score had  already swung in the Legend’s favour, making it 1-0 as Bentley scored the opening goal.

It didn’t take long for the blue and white team to put the ball in the back of the net once again, as  Derbyshire delivered a second goal with only eight minutes on the clock, making the score 2-0.

With many close calls, the final whistle was blown with the 2-0 win being confirmed. Regardless of the  scoreboard, fans enjoyed the match and found it fascinating and interesting to reflect and honour the  team’s historic journey.
