Several websites and social media sites such as X, ChatGPT, McDonalds and Spotify have gone down for many people due to issues surrounding Cloudfare.
Cloudfare is a major internet infrastructure firm and it a statement have said: “Cloudfare is experiencing an internet service degradation. Some services may be intermittently impacted.
“The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented.
A fix has been implemented and we believe that the incident is now resolved”, they later added.
However, they have said that “Some customers may still be experiencing issues logging into or using the Cloudfare dashboard”.
When users tried to login to X, for some it would say that it could not connect to the server and that there was an issue with internet servers due to the “error” with Cloudfare.
ChatGPT is another website struggling with the “intermittent access issues”.
OpenAI have also stated that “the incident is caused by an issue with one of our third-party service providers”, this being Cloudfare.
So What actually is Cloudfare?
Cloudfare is an American company based in San Francisco, used by 19.3% of all websites on the Internet for its web security services as of January 2025, according to W3Techs.
Other Internet services it provides include content delivery network services, cybersecurity and wide area network services.
Usually it works unseen, though an overload in internet requests can see the company struggle and server overwhelmed, causing it to slow down or break down, as seen today.
